Binge watching means watching several episodes or seasons of a TV series in a single session, without taking a break. It has become increasingly popular thanks to streaming platforms, which allow you to watch series on demand. 

Some research has been carried out on this recent but already widespread practice. It could be harmful to our health on several levels: 

  • Firstly, on our mental health: positive associations have been observed between binge-watching and the onset or increase in feelings of loneliness, anxiety and even depression. 

  • In some cases, it can lead to social isolation. 

  • In students, studies have shown that binge-watching and academic procrastination are positively correlated. 

  • The time we spend behind our screens is time when we are not physically active. A sedentary lifestyle is linked to numerous medium- and long-term physical problems: cardiovascular problems, overweight, obesity, musculoskeletal disorders...
