The sensation of stress is the result of a cascade of biological events occurring in your body. Your heartbeat or breathing will accelerate thanks to the secretion of adrenalin. If the stressful situation persists, cortisol will be secreted to supply energy to the muscles. The purpose of this instinctive mechanism is to enable you to cope with danger. Sometimes - and this can happen to anyone - these strategies don't work, and our bodies become immobilized, as if paralyzed by fear.
