How can sport help us manage stress?
When it comes to stress reduction, physical activity acts on several levels: like other activities (singing, drawing, etc.), it gives the brain a chance to take a break and focus on something other than the stressful situation. It also lowers stress hormone levels and increases the secretion of "feel-good" hormones such as endorphins. Sport also helps to regulate breathing, which is sometimes disrupted by stress. Finally, sport can also boost self-confidence and self-esteem.
