Can we use plastic food containers?

Some plastic food containers can potentially contain chemical compounds called PFAS, also known as "eternal pollutants".1 They are found in many everyday objects, such as food packaging and plastic water and milk bottles.
In terms of health effects, these chemical compounds can have a variety of consequences, including increased cholesterol levels, cancer concerns, possible disruption of fertility and fetal development, and suspected impact on the endocrine and immune systems, including the thyroid. Recently, EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) pointed out that natural pollutants could influence the immune response to vaccines, which is of concern for human health.
However, it is important to note that PFASs are subject to international and European regulations to minimize risks. Nevertheless, it is advisable to consider the use of glass or stainless steel containers to reduce these concerns, not to heat dishes in plastic containers, and to avoid numerous reuses.
