General

The environment, which brings together physical, chemical, biological, social and psychosocial factors, can exert a certain influence on human health, which can be positive or negative. In 1999, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared at the Health and Environment Ministerial Conference that "the environment is the key to better health".

Acting on environmental factors by limiting our impact on the planet could prevent a variety of health problems, such as cancer, reproductive and developmental disorders, and respiratory illnesses (asthma, etc.), by improving water, air and soil quality, and protecting ourselves from noise pollution... The world's population is already being affected by environmental events directly linked to climate change, such as droughts, tsunamis and earthquakes, with far-reaching consequences... It is therefore essential to take action against climate change, as environmental factors are responsible for 12.6 million deaths every year.1

In addition, the Ministry of Health and Prevention is responsible for establishing policies to manage the risks associated with water, foodstuffs and various physical, chemical and biological agents. For further information, please consult the National Health-Environment Plan (PNSE) 4.
