How can we improve the quality of the indoor air we breathe?
We spend almost 80% of our time in enclosed spaces, where the air we breathe is on average 4 to 5 times more polluted than the air outside. 1 2
We recommend a number of everyday measures to reduce indoor pollution, whether at home or in the workplace: air the home regularly, at least 10 minutes a day; don't smoke indoors, particularly to avoid passive smoking; don't use oil or gas-fired space heaters continuously in a poorly ventilated bedroom or room; fit your home or building with a ventilation system, and check that it's working properly on a regular basis. 3
The way we clean our homes can also affect air quality. In fact, it's best to use natural products such as black soap, baking soda or white vinegar.
