General
The French National Nutrition and Health Program (PNNS) recommends eating at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day. In fact, this means at least 5 portions (80-100 g). For reference, a portion is about the size of a fist. This could be a medium-sized apple, a handful of green beans, half a leek, 2 or 3 apricots, half an avocado, twenty or so cherries... In practice, this means including as many as possible at every meal (starter, main course, dessert), varying tastes and colors, and eating them in all their forms: raw, cooked, plain, stewed, au gratin, compote, pie, etc.
