Can bad eating habits wreak havoc on our liver?
We hear a lot about a liver disease called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It corresponds to an accumulation of fat in the liver. Obesity and insulin resistance, two metabolic disorders resulting from our Western-style diet (rich in fats, sugars and low in fiber) and sedentary lifestyle, are the main causes put forward. While the early stages are benign, the advanced stages are characterized by widespread liver inflammation and can lead to cirrhosis. If you are concerned about this problem, don't hesitate to consult your doctor, who will be able to prescribe a check-up.
