What is a compulsion?
Eating compulsions correspond to an irrepressible need to eat, with "binges" characterized by large quantities of food eaten impulsively over a short period of time. Unlike bulimic crises, they do not end with a compensatory act (induced vomiting, for example). Overly strict diets can encourage compulsive eating because of the cognitive restrictions they impose on individuals. Consult a doctor if you experience these signs.
