How can HPV be treated with little risk?
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common viral sexually transmitted infection. Around 80% of men and women will be infected with some type of HPV during their sexual lives. In most cases, HPV is harmless, being eliminated directly by the body. However, it can sometimes persist, causing condylomata - small pink or brown warts on the genitals. They are itchy and highly contagious. Local treatments are available: creams applied several times a week for 1 to 4 months, or laser treatment to destroy the lesions.
