Video game addiction is not measured in hours, but in what it takes away from life (friends, family, work...). The Institut d'Éducation Médicale et de Prévention (IEMP) defines certain criteria that can be used to sound the alarm about excessive gaming:
- the person feels obliged to play every day
- underestimates the amount of time spent playing
- and, above all: they are abandoning their real life in favor of their virtual one.
