What are the health problems associated with screen addiction? Does screen addiction lead to eyesight problems?
Studies have clearly shown that problematic screen use problematic use of screens, characterized by several behavioral signs (such as exclusivity for screens, "loss of control" with a feeling of lack or discomfort when disconnected, or practice leading negative consequences on social life) can have health consequences:
- poor posture that can be a source of pain or even trigger musculoskeletal disorders (Queiroz and al, 2018. "Musculoskeletal Pain and Musculoskeletal Syndromes in Adolescents Are Related to Electronic Devices").
- dietary imbalances that can ultimately lead to weight loss, overweight or obesity (study conducted by the National Institute of Health)
- a lack of physical activity, which can ultimately increase cardiovascular risk (ESTEBAN, Santé Publique France, 2017)
- sleep disorders (INSV/MGEN 2019 "Lifestyles and sleep" survey)
- visual fatigue: short-term phototoxic effects, myopia, increased risk of age-related macular degeneration (ANSES, 2019, Pr Nicolas Leveziel, CHU de Poitiers)
