Liquid calories

Liquid calories are the calories contained in beverages. Sugars, particularly in liquid form, contribute to weight gain. Cohort studies have shown a linear association between sweetened beverage consumption and weight gain. Furthermore, a meta-analysis conducted in 2023 shows that their consumption is significantly associated with the risk of hypertension, stroke and all-cause mortality. Sweetened beverage consumption is associated with an increased risk of cardiometabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. So beware of soft drinks, and also fruit juices, which are sweetened beverages.
