What are the treatments for HIV?
Current HIV treatments do not provide a cure, but they do block the evolution of the virus and improve living conditions. These treatments are known as tritherapies, as they combine the actions of three viral multiplication inhibitors in a single dose, in order to reliably block the multiplication of the virus and prevent the emergence of resistance. By suppressing viral replication, the treatment also blocks the risk of transmission to others. Treatment should be initiated as soon as possible after infection. In the event of recent HIV infection, there is also a post-exposure treatment (PEP) to be taken within 48 hours.
