How can I avoid HIV infection?

AIDS/HIV

HIV is generally transmitted during unprotected or inadequately protected sexual intercourse. It is present in blood and sexual secretions, which is why it is so important to protect yourself to avoid contamination. The condom, used correctly, is an effective and reliable means of protection. There are also preventive drugs such as PrEP and TasP. PrEP prevents the virus from entering the body during high-risk sex. For HIV-positive people, TasP ensures that the virus is no longer detectable in the blood. If HIV has been undetectable for more than 6 months, there is no longer any risk of transmission to a sexual partner.
