When should I stop smoking before becoming pregnant?

Pregnancy

Planning a pregnancy? It's always best to stop smoking before you get pregnant. Firstly, because smoking damages your fertility and that of your partner, quitting as soon as possible increases your chances of getting pregnant. Secondly, nicotine has harmful effects on foetal development. However, the harmful compounds in cigarettes are rapidly eliminated from the body after quitting (within 24 hours). It is therefore possible to become pregnant quickly after quitting smoking, without risk to the fetus. And if you're already pregnant, quitting as soon as possible will still benefit your baby. It's never too late to quit!
