Can you quit smoking without help?
Some people stop smoking on their own, without recourse to outside help. However, this is only a minority of cases, and makes withdrawal more difficult. Less than 5% of smokers who try to quit succeed if they are not helped in their attempt. Outside help includes, for example, temporary treatments such as nicotine substitutes (patches, gums, etc.), which increase the chances of withdrawal. They are not, however, indispensable, and you can also turn to experience-sharing and psychological support from groups of ex-smokers or health professionals. Finally, the people around you will be invaluable in supporting you in your efforts.
