Does smoking increase the risk of severe forms of Covid-19?
A study by the British Medical Journal and a study by AP-HP have shown a significant increase in the frequency of more serious symptoms in smokers with Covid-19 (notably a 50% increase in hospitalization rates in smokers compared to other infected individuals). The WHO points out that smoking also increases the risk of transmission of the virus from the hand to the mucous membranes of the mouth, thereby increasing the risk of contracting Covid-19.
