Depression

The most recent studies agree that smoking cessation improves psychological problems such as mood disorders, stress, anxiety and depression. The same beneficial effects are observed in people with and without diagnosed psychological conditions. While smoking cessation is therefore beneficial to mental well-being, it can be more difficult for smokers suffering from depression; hence the need for them to take advantage of the many aids available to facilitate their approach. Finally, the mood disturbances ("depression") often experienced when quitting smoking are only temporary, and are symptomatic of nicotine withdrawal.
