How long will the irresistible urge to smoke remain?

Consequences of the stop

If you've quit smoking, not everyone has yet, so you're bound to come across smokers at parties, for example. Evenings out with friends are one of the most challenging contexts for quitters. It's normal for the sight, smell and context of tobacco to provoke a desire to smoke. This will diminish over time. Taking a nicotine substitute before you go, or staying in the presence of non-smokers, can make the process easier.
