What are the causes and consequences (physical and psychological) of excessive masturbation?
Like all addictions, it works in a vicious circle. Often, the addict first uses masturbation for emotional regulation. Then comes the addiction, the need to "practice" to soothe and relieve oneself. And the need to practice more and more often to relieve oneself. The sexual need then becomes invasive, gradually occupying the whole field of thought and the person's time, leading to exclusion from family, friends and work.
The psychological impact can then become significant, with anxiety, depression, social isolation and even an increased risk of suicide.
The physical consequences can take the form of penile edema, mutilation and increased fatigue.
