Prof. Christophe Tzourio

Christophe Tzourio has a dual background as a neurologist (former Head of Clinic at Paris Hospitals) and epidemiologist. He is currently Director of the Inserm U1219 Population Health Research Center at the University of Bordeaux, which comprises 475 staff and 13 teams. He is also Director of the University Health Service.

Pr Tzourio has published 374 original articles cited more than 31,000 times. He has been a member of various French assessment bodies (Inserm Scientific Council, Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale, Fondation Plan Alzheimer, etc.) and regularly takes part in expert groups for international organizations (WHO, American Heart Association, European Commission, etc.).

In 2010, he and his team obtained major funding under the 'Investissements d'avenir' program to carry out a cohort study on student health, the i-Share(Internet-based students' health research enterprise) study. He was awarded the Coup d'Elan prize by the Bettencourt Foundation in 2012 for this project. This e-cohort, which includes some 20,000 students and is currently being followed up, will be used to study mental health issues and their determinants in this population.
