What impact do endocrine disruptors have on children's development?

Miscellaneous

Endocrine disruptors can produce effects at very low doses and over the long term. Sensitivity to these substances varies according to life stage. It is greatest during foetal life, infancy and puberty.1
In addition, exposure to a mixture of endocrine disruptors may generate a combined effect. These substances can then affect all endocrine functions, contributing to diseases that may be linked to healthy development, such as early puberty, disorders of fertility, growth, neurological development, immune function, and metabolic diseases (diabetes, obesity).

The Esteban survey, conducted by Santé publique France, has made it possible to measure the presence of environmental pollutants in the human body, to gain a better understanding of the sources of exposure, and thus to establish reference values for impregnation in the general population. The initial results, published in 2019, show that some pollutants are present in the bodies of the entire population, with impregnation levels often higher in children. This is the case for proven or suspected endocrine disruptors, such as bisphenols, phthalates, parabens and others. Modes of exposure vary according to substances and practices: diet, use of cosmetics and health products, insufficiently ventilated homes, etc.
