What are the effects of electromagnetic waves on our health?

A radio or television antenna, or a cell phone in operation, generates electromagnetic fields which are dispersed in the environment in the form of waves.
In the context of radiofrequencies, exposure to high levels of electromagnetic waves can induce heating of biological tissues, including the skin and internal body structures. This phenomenon is known as the thermal effect. However, the exposure thresholds currently in place in France ensure that such levels of radio waves are never reached in public places, nor in situations of normal use of transmitting devices.

With regard to cell phone waves, ANSES's research does not demonstrate a causal link between exposure to waves emitted by mobile communications and health effects. The Working Group on Monographs of the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) examined whether these exposures could have long-term health consequences for intensive cell phone users, in particular by increasing the risk of cancer. Following the results, the IARC classified radiofrequencies as "possibly carcinogenic".
